Bio

Jan Stuhler holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University College London. He is a Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, having previously served as an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at the same institution. He is a council member of the European Economic Association. He is also affiliated with the Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration (CReAM), the Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI), the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and CESifo, among other institutions. He has been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant, the "Julián Marías" Research Prize of the Community of Madrid (2021), and the Fundación Banco Sabadell Economic Research Prize (2025). His research focuses on labor economics, public economics, microeconometrics, migration, and intergenerational mobility. He is a co-editor of Labour Economics and formerly served as a panel member of Economic Policy, as well as a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a visiting researcher at Harvard University.
